National Conference Calls
Investing Title I Funds in Pre-K
On May 6, 2009 Pre-K Now and the American Federation of Teachers hosted Investing Title I Funds in Pre-K - a national call highlighting Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and its uses for early learning.
The call featured experts from Maryland's Montgomery County Public Schools-- Dr. Jerry Weast, Superintendent, and Janine Bacquie, Director of Early Childhood Programs. School districts across the nation are poised to receive $13 billion through Title I as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Documenting and demonstrating positive outcomes and savings is both a requirement for ARRA funding and a strategy to prompt further investment. Dr. Weast and his team discussed the MCPS full-day pre-k initiative, an example of investing Title I funds in high-quality pre-kindergarten programs.
